“New Carbon Reduction Trends in the Construction Industry — The Low-Carbon Digital Alliance Leading the Transformation”

As global attention to environmental sustainability continues to grow, the construction industry — one of the major sources of greenhouse gas emissions — must actively pursue carbon reduction efforts. According to research by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the construction sector accounts for approximately 37% of global carbon emissions, and reducing "embodied carbon in buildings" is a key factor in low-carbon development. The Low-Carbon Digital Construction Alliance is committed to promoting digital transformation and low-carbon development in the construction industry. Through technological innovation and standardized management, it helps the industry achieve carbon reduction goals and move toward sustainable development.

“Advancing Carbon Footprint Management and Establishing Low-Carbon Standards”

The Alliance focuses on carbon footprint management in the construction industry, introducing international standards such as organizational carbon inventory (ISO 14064), product carbon footprint (ISO 14067), and energy management (ISO 50001). It also develops a construction product carbon footprint database to establish a low-carbon building material assessment mechanism suited to Taiwan's market needs. Furthermore, the Alliance combines Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology with carbon footprint data to develop dynamic carbon emission estimation tools, enabling accurate carbon footprint assessment during the architectural design phase and enhancing the low-carbon efficiency of project planning.

“Developing Low-Carbon Building Materials and Construction Technologies”

In terms of building materials and construction technologies, the Alliance actively assists building material manufacturers in adopting circular economy concepts, promotes low-carbon material certification, and guides construction companies in using low-carbon construction techniques — such as reducing energy consumption and improving material recycling rates. Through Hybrid Life Cycle Assessment (Hybrid-LCA) technology, the Alliance can quantify the environmental impact of building material products and establish an Environmentally Extended Input-Output Analysis (EIOA) model to accurately calculate carbon emissions across a building's full life cycle, ensuring that every stage — from design and construction to demolition — meets low-carbon standards.

“Aligning with Government Policy to Drive the Industry Toward Net Zero”

The Alliance's direction is closely aligned with the government's net-zero policies, actively cooperating with the National Development Council, the Ministry of the Interior's National Land Management Agency, and the Public Construction Commission's carbon reduction strategies — including the 2050 net-zero emissions target, BIM technology applications, and carbon reduction audits for public works projects. Going forward, the Alliance will continue deepening the integration of digital technologies and low-carbon engineering, driving industrial transformation, and helping the construction sector achieve net-zero emissions to build a sustainable future together.

“Carbon Reduction Solutions — Co-creating a Low-Carbon Future”

The Alliance actively assists building material manufacturers in adopting circular economy concepts, promotes low-carbon material certification, and guides construction companies in using low-carbon construction techniques, such as reducing energy consumption and improving material recycling rates. Through Hybrid-LCA technology, the Alliance quantifies the environmental impact of building material products and establishes an EIOA model to accurately calculate carbon emissions across a building's full life cycle, ensuring every stage complies with low-carbon standards.
